Children love folding. They are always inspired what a sheet of paper can become in a very short time. They learn to work precise as this will produce the best result. Folding paper is available at any handicraft shop in different colours and sizes. The size 10 X 10cm is suitable for ladybirds. The children can paste several ladybirds onto a piece of paper and draw for example a meadow, flowers and so on. A children's bedroom door looks funny when it is covered in ladybirds (use sticky tape).
1. Put the paper onto the table and
2. fold corner onto corner.
3. Pull now the right corner up and run over the formed fold. Do the same with the left corner and paste the folded work onto a sheet of paper.
4. Now the ladybird gets black dots for head and antenna. For best result use black felt tip.
These colourful beetles are made with rainbow paper. The folding process is the same as before. Children draw with a black pencil head, legs and antennas. The face of a beetle looks especially funny with pasted on wobbly eyes (available at crafts shops).
Useful Hints:
Show you child the folding processes step by step so that the child can copy these at its own pace. After a short while it will be able to fold a beetle independently.
